Distinguished Professor and Research Advisor
Prof. Probir Kumar Banerjee obtained his Ph.D. in Information Systems from the City University of Hong Kong, MBA from Fort Fays State University, USA, and B.Sc. (Engg) degree from IIT, BHU, Varanasi.
He is currently a Visiting Faculty at the University of the South Pacific, Fiji. His prior academic engagements were as Professor and Research Chair at Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur, India, Senior Visiting Fellow at the City University of Hong Kong, Senior Research Fellow at the University of Malaya, and Associate Professor at the Swinburne University of Technology at their Sarawak, Malaysian campus. Before moving to academia, he held senior-level managerial and consultancy positions in diverse industry verticals in India, Hong Kong, and Canada.
His research interest is in building theories and frameworks that explain and help to address the challenges facing organizations and governments as they integrate emerging technologies for innovative business processes and service delivery. His current interest is in exploring the changing contours of banking, healthcare, and public service delivery contexts following digital transformation, and management of the attendant emerging legal and ethical issues.
He has published in several A* and A category journals (ABDC ranked) such as Decision Support Systems, Information Systems Frontiers, Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce, Journal of Global Information Management, Behaviour and Information Technology, Communications of the ACM, and the Journal of B2B Marketing. His research on Malaysia’s healthcare readiness was funded by a research grant awarded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia. He has chaired tracks and presented papers in major international conferences, conducted qualitative research workshops for Ph.D. students and faculty members, reviewed doctoral thesis, supervised doctoral students, and served on doctoral dissertation panels for universities in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and India. He specializes in teaching case development and several of his teaching cases on finance, international business, and IT are distributed by the Harvard Business School Publishing and the Hong Kong University.
Prof. Banerjee has developed and taught courses on IT Project Management, MIS, Qualitative Research Methods, Systems Analysis, and Design, IS Strategy, and Legal and Ethical Issues in Information Systems at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels, designed and taught management development programs for senior executives, and moderated panel discussions on strategic management issues facing organizations, industries, and governments consequent on their digital transformation trajectory. His current teaching interest is in cross-disciplinary perspectives of organizational management and public governance.
